Questions and answers

Is amethyst the February birthstone?

Yes, amethyst is the UK birthstone for February. It is a purple variety of quartz, and our Comma Edit post, Amethyst Meaning and Uses, covers where the name comes from and how to choose a piece.

Do you sell raw amethyst?

Yes. Raw Amethyst Crystals (£30.95) and Amethyst Rough Points (£18.95) both come as 500g lots, and there are amethyst tumble stones too, including a medium chevron amethyst from South Africa.

What sizes are the amethyst spheres?

The African amethyst sphere is 40mm and weighs about 109g, and the amethyst aura sphere is 50mm and about 223g. Both come with a stand.

How many stones are on an amethyst gemstone tree?

It depends on the tree. The tree on a natural agate base has 100 amethyst stones and measures about 9 x 5 x 13cm, the 160-stone tree on a rock jasper base is about 8 x 4 x 20.5cm, and one orgonite-base tree has 80 stones.

Does amethyst fade in sunlight?

It can fade after long spells in strong, direct sunlight, so a shelf out of direct sun is a better home for a display piece. Dust it with a soft, dry cloth.
